Overview

The Check Airman (Rotor Wing, VFR/IFR) serves as a company-designated instructor and evaluator responsible for pilot standardization, qualification, and operational oversight. This role conducts initial, recurrent, and upgrade training, as well as line checks and proficiency evaluations across assigned regions. This is a travel-based position supporting multiple bases and aircraft platforms.

 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial, recurrent, transition, and upgrade training (ground and flight) for rotor wing pilots (VFR and IFR)
  • Perform line checks, instrument proficiency checks (IPCs), and operational evaluations in accordance with FAA regulations and company standards
  • Ensure compliance with the General Operations Manual, FAA requirements, and internal safety policies
  • Identify, correct, and report out-of-compliance issues; coordinate resolution with Chief Pilot (CP), Assistant Chief Pilot (ACP), and Regional Aviation Director (RAD)
  • Support standardization across bases, ensuring consistent training and evaluation practices
  • Assist in development and delivery of training programs, including instrument and NVG training
  • Maintain accurate training records and submit required documentation in a timely manner
  • Operate advanced training devices and full-flight simulators as required
  • Provide input into training curriculum, checklists, and program improvements

    Operational Expectations

    • High travel role supporting multiple regions and bases
    • Works across both VFR and IFR operations depending on aircraft and program
    • Direct impact on pilot readiness, safety, and operational continuity

Qualifications

  • Commercial Rotorcraft Helicopter License with Instrument Rating (required)
  • CFI / CFII (Rotorcraft) required or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Previous Check Airman, Instructor Pilot, or equivalent experience strongly preferred
  • Meets Air Methods and FAA minimum flight hour requirements
  • Strong working knowledge of Part 135 operations

    Preferred Qualifications

    • ATP rating
    • Prior IFR operational experience in HEMS or similar environment
    • Experience conducting formal pilot evaluations and check rides

Minimum pay

USD $89,650.00/Yr.

Maximum Pay

USD $120,000.00/Yr.
