Job Summary
The Chief Compliance Officer is responsible for overseeing legal and regulatory matters related to the company’s operations, ensuring that Air Methods complies with all applicable laws and regulations. This role will develop, review, and implement the organization’s compliance policies, procedures, and guidelines, while safeguarding the company’s legal interests and ensuring operations remain within legal boundaries. This role is also responsible for conducting investigations in coordination with other functional groups into potential violations of the company’s ethical standards, legal requirements, and corporate policies. They will ensure investigations are conducted lawfully, objectively, and thoroughly, gathering all relevant facts, and providing an accurate report of findings. Clear, concise, and fact-based reports will be presented to facilitate fair and informed decision-making. Additionally, this role will recommend proactive measures to minimize the risk of future incidents. The Chief Compliance Officer will collaborate closely with executive leadership, senior management, and other departments to support business initiatives while minimizing legal risk.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following:
- Provide legal counsel on a wide range of issues related to medical air transport services, including contracts, risk management, patient care, aviation law, and healthcare regulations.
- Advise the company on regulatory matters and help navigate complex legal and regulatory frameworks in the healthcare and aviation sectors.
Chief Compliance Officer Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive compliance program tailored to the medical air transport industry, ensuring the organization adheres to all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Monitor and interpret relevant federal, state, and local regulations (including healthcare regulations such as HIPAA, FAA regulations, and transportation-related compliance) to ensure ongoing compliance across all operations.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify compliance gaps and recommend effective mitigation strategies.
- Oversee internal compliance audits and investigations, ensuring corrective actions are taken as needed to resolve any identified compliance issues.
- Collaborate with department heads to ensure all business operations (e.g., medical, aviation, billing, licensure, IT, etc.) comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
- Establish and maintain compliance training programs to educate employees on legal and ethical standards, regulatory changes, and best practices.
- Report on compliance status to senior leadership and regulatory agencies as required.
- Stay updated on changes in relevant laws and regulations, ensuring the company adapts to new legal requirements effectively.

Qualifications

Education & Experience
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- 10 years’ experience in a law firm or in-house healthcare position
- Familiarity with healthcare compliance regulations and other aviation-related legal standards.
- Experience in the medical air transport or air ambulance sector.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of HIPAA and AKS rules and regulations preferred
- Experience in the healthcare or aviation industry preferred
- Strong ethical foundation with a commitment to integrity, transparency, and confidentiality.
- Collaborative team player with excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple complex issues simultaneously.
- Proactive in identifying and addressing legal and compliance challenges before they escalate.
Computer Skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state
- Certification in compliance (e.g., Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional, CCEP) is a plus
