Overview

Job Summary

Responsible for definition, support, and oversight of compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)/Organization Designation Authorization (ODA), United Rotorcraft, and engineering requirements. Assist with the certification of United Rotorcraft products, including the integration of mission equipment to support EMS, firefighting, and rescue operations. Establish applicable certification requirements and guidance, and coordinate implementation by technical staff. Prepare and complete Compliance Checklists, Certification Plans, Conformity Inspection Plans, and Compliance Summaries for Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) projects. Work effectively in a multi-disciplined engineering environment including structures, mechanical/electrical systems, and avionics commonly found in aircraft certified to 14 CFR Part 27 and 29 and U.S. Military requirements. Provide quality oversight and audit of ODA project files for initial submittal through final approval. Assist with ODA Unit Member (UM) appointment, renewal, and training. Support internal/external audit, continued operational safety, and root cause/corrective action activities. Assist with development and implementation of department policies and procedures. Significantly impacts the company’s ability to consistently meet regulatory, commercial, and technical obligations utilizing strong problem-solving skills. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following:  

  • Review previously produced certification documents, drawings, technical data, and test data as benchmarks for preparation of future documents.
  • Prepares project certification documents and plans that ensure United Rotorcraft products comply with applicable regulations. This includes the preparation and completion of Compliance Checklists, Certification Plans, Conformity Inspections Plans, and FAA forms.
  • Coordinate and finalize the preparation of certification documentation per project compliance checklist. This includes, but is not limited to Structural/Mechanical/Electrical/Avionics substantiation documents, configuration control documents, master drawing lists, standard parts lists, commercial parts lists, test plans/reports, ICAs, RFMSs, etc.
  • Participate in product design reviews and provide actionable design guidance related to the product’s test and certification plan.
  • Prepare conformity management functions in support of certification projects.
  • Participate in various administrative tasks in support of the department.
  • Provide certification project quality oversight to include auditing of project files prior to submittal and final approval.
  • Remain knowledgeable of FAA requirements and guidance to ensure compliance and serve as technical resource to other department personnel.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in technical/engineering from four-year college or university; and 3+ years’ FAA aircraft certification experience in an airworthiness, certification, or quality role; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of FAA Type Certification, ODA, and manufacturing processes with 14 CFR and Department of Defense (DOD) regulatory requirements preferred.
  • Previous experience in quality, auditing, and technical writing skills.
  • Direct experience with FAA regulatory requirements.
  • Direct experience working with FAA and/or ODA administrative personnel and designees preferred.
  • 5-8 years analysis, design and development experience in aviation and related military aircraft programs preferred.
  • 3-5 years’ experience performing certification tasks required.
  • Foreign STC experience and experience in certifying or working with military aircraft programs preferred.
  • Familiarity with aerospace industry guidance, safety analysis methodologies, and qualification protocols such as DO-160 and Mil-Std-810 preferred.

  • Strong technical writing skills related to writing and/or editing repair instructions, technical manuals, maintenance manuals, repair instructions, flight manual supplements, and instructions for continued airworthiness.
  • Certification and/or governmental qualification test experience a plus.
  • Ability to be a team player with a professional attitude, striving for continuous improvement.

Computer Skills

  • Proficient with PC-based software including Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and design/drawing software.
  • Previous experience with database/software configuration preferred.
  • Experience with Solidworks and/or Solidworks EPDM preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • A&P licenses, Engineering in Training (EIT), Professional Engineer (PE) certifications, American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), National Center for Aerospace & Transportations Technologies (NCATT), and Aircraft Electronics Technician (AET) preferred.
  • FAA delegated designations, Designated Engineering Representative (DER), Designated Airworthiness Representative (DAR), etc. preferred.

Pay Range

USD $104,000.00 - USD $130,000.00 /Yr.
