Overview

Job Summary

Official title for this position will be "Voice Network Systems Engineer" which is responsible for management and support of the technical infrastructure related to communicating with Air Methods’ aircraft and personnel. This includes support of conventional and trunked radio systems, the dispatch console system, recording equipment, PBX and all related hardware, software and cable plant.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Manage and support radio systems, console equipment, disaster recovery equipment, PBX and related systems used to communicate with emergency medical services aircraft and personnel.
  • Support communications-related software applications including configuring and troubleshooting
  • Interface with telecom, radio system, and console vendors to troubleshoot problems with these systems
  • Manage deployment projects and communicates effectively with Information Services, flight program and regional management, communications center management and other constituents
  • Perform project management duties, including system specification and design, budgeting, interfacing with internal and external personnel and implementation
  • Identify new radio network designs to increase service levels and reduce costs
  • Maintain all FCC licensing and documentation
  • Other Duties as assigned

Additional Job Requirements

• Regular scheduled attendance to include on-call rotations and occasional after-hours work
• Indicate the percentage of time spent traveling: <10%

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Two-year degree in technical subject or equivalent work experience required
• Five or more years’ experience with two-way radio system (e.g., amateur, EMS, fire, police) design and implementation
• Experience with console communication systems
• Troubleshooting experience
• Experience with managing small to medium projects

Skills

• Extensive understanding of two-way radio systems, base stations, repeaters, antenna systems and remote control methods
• Knowledge of telecom circuits
• Knowledge of dispatch console systems
• Understands FCC licensing requirements
• Solid project management skills, especially effective written and verbal communication skills
• Detail-oriented with strong follow-through and ability to work in a high-profile, complex environment

Computer Skills

  • Good computer skills including basic networking
  • Familiarity with virtual server environments (such as VxRail)
  • Experience performing System Administrator functions on Windows servers
  • Familiarity with operations in Linux (especially Debian and SLES)
  • Appropriate home internet service to allow working from home
  • Good understanding of Windows and Microsoft Office products
