Overview

Job Description Summary

As a Manufacturing Inspector at United Rotorcraft, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our aerospace products meet the highest standards of quality and precision. This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and a passion for excellence. The ideal candidate we are seeking is meticulous and detail oriented and will ensure that there are zero quality escapes to our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough inspections of aerospace components and assemblies at various stages of the manufacturing process to ensure compliance with specifications, engineering drawings & work instructions, quality standards, and industry requirements.
  • Utilize a variety of precision measuring instruments (e.g. calipers, micrometers, gauges, optical comparators, roamer arm, height gauges) to verify dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes.
  • Conduct visual inspections to identify any defects, irregularities, or discrepancies in parts, assemblies, or kits, and document findings accurately.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing personnel, engineers, and other stakeholders to address quality issues, resolve discrepancies, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections results, including work order reports, inspection reports, non-conformance reports, and quality documentation, in accordance with the company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in internal audits, quality control meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes and product quality.
  • Monitor and verify compliance with quality control procedures, work instructions, and specifications throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Perform specialized inspections, such as first article or FAA conformity inspections as required.
  • Conduct thorough visual inspections and review accompanying documentation (such as packing slips, certificates of conformance, and material test reports) to ensure the accuracy and completeness of received materials.
  • Perform representative sampling of incoming materials to facilitate through quality inspection and testing while minimizing waste and resource consumption.
  • Communicate effectively with the Supplier Quality Engineer(s) and suppliers regarding quality issues and discrepancies.

Leadership Responsibilities

No direct reports. Provide guidance and support for manufacturing personnel on quality control practices, standards, and procedures.

Position Requirements

Qualifications

For a candidate to qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, training, experience, and abilities required.

Education & Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior training with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques.

Experience

  • Aerospace manufacturing or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret an engineering blueprint along with basic math skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining composure and professionalism.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9001 quality management systems.

Other

  • Regular scheduled attendance and overtime as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Travel only required upon special request.

Desired Job Qualifications

The desired qualifications are a list of important education or experience specific to the role that we are looking for in a candidate.

  • Associates degree or technical certification preferred.
  • Prior experience as a manufacturing inspector or manufacturing technician.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and experience implementing process improvements.

  • Computer Skills: Proficient with the Microsoft Suite (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Word), prior usage of ERP software, and able to work in quality system databases.

Level Distinctions

  • Level 1– Less than three (3) years of experience with a basic understanding of precision measuring instruments and the ability to use them under supervision. Limited experience reading and interpretating engineering drawings and a solid understanding of shop math. Able to work alone on tasks of moderate complexity and assignments. Normally receives general instruction on work and new assignments and procedures.
  • Level 2 – Three (3) to Eight (8) years of experience with a proficient understanding of precision measuring instruments. Experience with interpreting engineering drawings and specifications. Able to conduct all inspections independently with minimal support necessary. Developing analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data and identify root causes of quality issues. May require some guidance in recommending corrective actions. Capable of supporting junior inspectors.
  • Level 3 – Eight (8) to twelve (12) years of experience with and advanced proficiency in the use of precision measuring tools and extensive experience in interpreting complex engineering drawings. Capable of conducting thorough inspections and providing expert guidance to junior inspectors. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes of quality issues and recommend effective corrective actions. Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate inspection findings with a collaborative cross functional team and company leadership.

Compensation and Benefits:

 

The hourly range for the Manufacturing Inspector 1 role is $20.50/hr - $26.50/hr.

The hourly range for the Manufacturing Inspector 2 role is $25.00/hr - $31.00/hr.

The hourly range for the Manufacturing Inspector 3 role is $27.50/hr - $34.50/hr.

 

Final compensation for the role will depend on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, certifications, and relevant work experience and may fall outside the range shown.

Pay Range

USD $20.50 - USD $34.50 /Hr.
